Patient Resources
Clear answers and practical guidance so you understand every step of your dental care, from daily habits to treatment decisions.
Good dental care starts with understanding, not just treatment. At Elevate Dental, we believe a patient who knows what is happening in their mouth, and why a certain treatment is recommended, makes better decisions and feels calmer in the chair.
Our Mountain's Edge office sets aside real time during every visit to walk through findings on your x-rays, explain what gum health actually looks like, and answer the questions many people feel embarrassed to ask. This page covers the topics we discuss most often, so you can come to your appointment already informed.
Whether you are managing a child's first cavity, considering a crown, or simply trying to improve your flossing habit, our team is here to translate dental terminology into something you can actually use at home.
Education is built into every appointment at our Mountain's Edge office, not offered as an afterthought. Here are three areas where we spend the most time with patients.
We explain how decay and gum disease actually develop, so brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings make more sense than abstract advice. You will leave knowing exactly what your mouth needs between visits.
Before recommending a filling, crown, or root canal, we show you what the x-ray or scan reveals and walk through the alternatives. You decide with full information, never pressure.
From proper brushing angle to the right flossing technique for your specific bite, we demonstrate instead of just describing. Small adjustments at home often prevent bigger problems down the road.
A lot of anxiety about dental visits comes from not knowing what is about to happen or why it is necessary. We have found that patients who understand the reasoning behind a recommendation are far more likely to follow through with care, stick to a home routine, and return for cleanings on schedule rather than waiting until something hurts.
That is why our dentists and hygienists talk you through findings in plain language, show you intraoral photos when relevant, and never assume you already know dental terms like "occlusion" or "periodontal pocket." If something is unclear, ask again. We would rather repeat ourselves than have you leave confused.
We also recognize that families in Mountain's Edge come to us with different needs at different life stages. A parent bringing in a toddler for a first exam needs very different guidance than someone managing long-term gum disease or preparing for an implant. Our education approach adjusts to match where you actually are.
Here is what patient education typically includes during a visit:
"Our goal isn't to rush patients through a checklist. It's to make sure they leave understanding their own mouth better than when they walked in."

Common questions Mountain's Edge patients ask about understanding their dental care and treatment choices.
We believe treatment works better when you understand it. A filling, crown, or deep cleaning you agreed to after seeing the x-ray and hearing the reasoning is a decision you will trust and follow up on properly. Rushed treatment without explanation often leads to missed home care or delayed follow-through, which costs more in the long run.
Ask us to explain it again, right then in the chair. We would much rather pause and clarify a term like "occlusal adjustment" or "periodontal scaling" than have you leave uncertain. You can also call our office afterward at (702) 577-3702 if a question comes up once you're home.
Brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, and floss once daily, ideally before brushing at night so fluoride can reach the areas you just cleared. The order matters less than consistency. If flossing feels awkward, ask us to demonstrate the right technique at your next visit; a small change in angle often makes a big difference.
With children, we slow down even further, explain each tool before it touches their mouth, and let them ask questions in their own words. We also talk to parents about age-appropriate brushing habits, sugar and snack timing, and when to expect baby teeth to start loosening, so the whole family is informed, not just the child in the chair.
Bleeding when you brush or floss, gums that look red or puffy instead of pink and firm, persistent bad breath, and any tooth that feels slightly loose are all signs worth mentioning at your next cleaning. Caught early, gum disease is usually manageable with deeper cleanings and better home care rather than surgery.
A filling repairs a small area of decay while leaving most of the tooth intact. A crown covers a tooth that has lost significant structure, protecting it from cracking. A root canal addresses decay or infection that has reached the nerve inside the tooth. We will show you exactly how deep the decay goes on your x-ray before recommending one over another, and explain why the more conservative option isn't always possible.
